On January 29, 2024, Walailak University, represented by the Internal Audit Unit, organized a project to promote knowledge and understanding of the assessment of ethics and transparency in university operations for fiscal year 2024 to enhance understanding of ethics and transparency in university operations for personnel in all sectors. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President of Walailak University, presided over the opening ceremony. Assistant Professor Dr. Phadungsak Suksa-ard, Vice President of Walailak University, gave a report. We were honored to have Mr. Phinyoyot Muangsammuk, an expert in corruption prevention, Office of Evaluation of Ethics and Transparency, Office of the NACC, as a speaker on the topic of “Criteria for the Assessment of Ethics and Transparency in the Operations of Government Agencies for Fiscal Year 2024” at the Phattharamaporn Meeting Room, Walailak University Medical Center Hospital. And via the online Zoom Cloud Meeting system, with executives and personnel from all sectors of Walailak University participating.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Acting President, said that Walailak University has a policy to continuously support the assessment of ethics and transparency in the operations of government agencies or ITA, which is considered an important measure in developing the university in terms of ethics and transparency, which will lead to proactive corruption prevention and for the university to be aware of its own status in terms of ethics and transparency, as well as to use it to improve and develop its operations, set policies for operations in accordance with the principles of good governance, so that all employees perform their duties with honesty, adhere to the principles of ethics, transparency, and accountability, and to create awareness of the participation of various agencies within the university in combating corruption in operations.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Phadungsak Suksad said that Walailak University, by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President, has emphasized the commitment to ensure that the organization’s management is carried out with good governance to create trust and confidence in society. All executives and personnel must perform their duties with honesty, transparency, and accountability in accordance with the guidelines for promoting ethics to the fullest extent of their abilities, and operate without corruption in every step of the operation, in order to be worthy of being a “good state organization” according to the university’s vision. This can be seen from the operational policy that requires all personnel of the university to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, and shame of committing wrongdoing and corruption.
For the ITA assessment, Walailak University has been assessed for ethics and transparency in the operations of government agencies since the fiscal year 2017 onwards. It was found that the university’s overall assessment scores have been continuously increasing. In the fiscal year 2023, the university received a passing score of 92.52 points. The training project to provide knowledge and understanding in the assessment of ethics and transparency in the operations of Walailak University according to the assessment criteria of the NACC this time will not only promote the university’s personnel’s knowledge and understanding, but will also help prevent corruption that may occur in the university in the future, as well as prepare personnel for the assessment in the fiscal year 2024.
