Veterans Day commemorates the return of Thai soldiers from World War II. It is a day to honor and support the families of soldiers who died in combat. The government provides assistance through royal decrees published in the Royal Gazette on February 3rd of each year.
Subsequently, in 1967, the Veterans Organization was transformed from a state charity to a legal entity. The Ministry of Defense establishes a fund to receive financial support.
The duties of the Veterans Organization include providing welfare assistance such as housing, education, and prosthetics. They also offer career support through vocational training, overseas job placement, and agricultural assistance by providing land for farming, equipment support, and various funds for members to borrow for their livelihoods. Free medical treatment is also provided, along with advocacy for veterans’ rights, such as fare reductions.
