Walailak University, in collaboration with surrounding communities, organized the “Walailak Songkran: Preserving Tradition” event for the year 2025 to jointly preserve Thailand’s beautiful traditions, seek blessings from the elderly for auspiciousness in the Thai New Year, and foster positive relationships between the university and its neighboring communities.
On April 9, 2025, Walailak University, led by its Center for Cultural Promotion and Sports, in cooperation with the Academic Service Center, Village No. 6 of Hua Taphan Subdistrict, Village No. 8 of Thai Buri Subdistrict in Tha Sala District, the Community Health Promotion Hospital of Walailak University Demonstration Community, and various units within the university, jointly held the Songkran tradition of pouring water on the hands of the elderly to seek blessings. This event aimed to preserve and continue Thai traditions, conserve and inherit arts and culture, and instill a sense of love and gratitude towards elders and benefactors. The event took place in the central hall of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Walailak University. On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presided over the event and delivered his well wishes. University administrators, faculty, staff, students, honored guests, the elderly, and community leaders attended in large numbers.
The event invited elderly individuals from the communities surrounding the university, who have long contributed to the community and society, to receive the traditional pouring of water and blessings from the students and personnel of Walailak University. There was a Buddhist ceremony and the bathing of a Buddha image for auspiciousness in work. Activities included performances from Chumchon Mai School, a retro Thai circle dance (Ram Wong), and a traditional long drum procession for entertainment. Awards were also presented to healthy elderly individuals and the “Beautiful Dancing Elderly of the Year.” Additionally, various units of the university provided food stalls.
Personnel from the Division of General Administration and Central Correspondence Office, recognizing the importance of preserving Thai traditions, participate in this activity annually. Furthermore, they assist with reception and registration duties, consistently demonstrating good relations and cooperation with the Center for Cultural Promotion and Sports.
