Walailak University Announces Preparations for the 41st Thailand University Games for University Personnel, “Tumpang Games”

Walailak University is ready to host the 41st Thailand University Games for University Personnel, “Tumpang Games.” Over 7,000 athletes from 63 institutions nationwide will compete for 426 gold medals. The event is expected to significantly boost the economy of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

On April 3, 2025, at the Phattharathammaporn Conference Room, Medical Center Hospital, Walailak University, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, along with Mr. Prasong Chanyo, the District Chief Officer of Tha Sala District representing the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, Associate Professor Dr. Chusit Pradabphet, Chairman of the University Sports Board of Thailand (USBT), and Associate Professor Dr. Chanchai Suksuwan, Chairman of the Subcommittee for the Promotion of Sports for Excellence of the USBT, jointly announced the readiness to host the 41st Thailand University Games for University Personnel, “Tumpang Games.” The event will celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the establishment of Walailak University and will take place from May 3-10, 2025, at Walailak University, Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, with the participation of over 7,000 personnel athletes from 63 higher education institutions.

Walailak University has been honored by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation to host the 41st Thailand University Games for University Personnel, “Tumpang Games,” which will be held under the concept of “Power of Spirit,” reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship, knowing how to win, knowing how to lose, knowing how to forgive, and enhancing the power of unity. The competition will feature 17 sports: athletics, football, futsal, volleyball, tennis, badminton, table tennis, swimming, petanque, aerobics, dancesport, sepak takraw, hoop takraw, e-sports, snooker-billiards, golf, and the demonstration sport of woodball, with a total of over 426 gold medals to be won. Fifteen sports will be held at the university’s facilities, except for golf, which will be held at Ratchaprapha Dam in Surat Thani Province, and snooker-billiards, which will be held in Mueang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong stated that Walailak University is highly prepared to host the games, as the university has sufficient international standard sports facilities. Importantly, it has a continuous history of collaboration in organizing national and international sports events. Hosting this event has attracted the interest of over 7,000 people from educational institutions across the country. In addition to promoting sports, it will also provide an opportunity for visitors to travel and experience the atmosphere of Tha Sala District, Mueang District, and other areas in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, thereby stimulating the economic activities of the province and creating vibrancy in the community.

The District Chief Officer of Tha Sala said that Nakhon Si Thammarat has high potential and great diversity, including natural tourist attractions such as mountains, hot springs, waterfalls, rivers, beautiful seas, fresh air, and abundant food. It is also a distinguished historical city in terms of religion, arts and culture, local wisdom, way of life, and community strength, which is the origin of being a “City of Civilization, Livable and Worth Visiting.” The sports competition will further boost tourism and the economy in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

The Chairman of the University Sports Board of Thailand stated that the goal of organizing this competition is to foster love, unity, familiarity, and networking among university personnel, which will facilitate future work coordination. On behalf of the USBT, he has been following the progress of Walailak University’s preparations and found that everything is excellently prepared. He is confident that the games will achieve their intended objectives.

Previously, Walailak University hosted the Thailand University Games for University Personnel twice, in 2006 and 2012. This 41st edition marks the third time the university will host the event. The opening ceremony will be held on May 3, 2025, at the Tumpang Central Stadium, Walailak University.
