Walailak University Hosts the 3rd/2025 Ordinary Meeting of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand and the Association of University Presidents of Thailand

On June 22, 2025, Walailak University had the honor of hosting the 3rd/2025 Ordinary Meeting of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) and the General Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of Thailand. The event took place at the Huataphan Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Chulabhorn Walailak Building, Walailak University Medical Center.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, gave a welcoming address. The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University and Chairman of CUPT. The primary purpose of the meeting was to report on CUPT’s operations and strengthen relationships among member academic institutions. More than 80 presidents and representatives from 34 universities attended the gathering.

A special lecture titled “Higher Education Skills Fund” was also delivered by Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI).

In the afternoon, the CUPT delegates visited the Walailak University Medical Center, the Debaratana Rajanagarindra Natural History Museum, the Botanical Garden, and Walailak Garden.

The Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT) aims to facilitate exchange and cooperation among government universities and higher education institutions. Its crucial objectives include developing and improving Thailand’s higher education system, with a core focus on elevating the quality of education, research, and academic services across various institutions. Furthermore, CUPT plays a significant role in considering and providing recommendations on higher education policies and development plans, as well as collaborating with both public and private sectors to advance and enhance the quality of the nation’s education.
