On January 15, 2026, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presided over the signing ceremony for the Fiscal Year 2026 Performance Agreements (PA). The event was attended by vice presidents, assistant presidents, deans, directors, and heads of 46 departments. The ceremony, aimed at synchronizing efforts to achieve the university’s strategic goals, took place at the Hua Taphan Meeting Room, 3rd Floor, Chulabhorn Vejjavat Building, Walailak University Hospital.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong stated that the signing of the 2026 Performance Agreements serves as a collective commitment from the senior executive team. This pledge ensures that the university’s administration aligns with its strategic plan and vision of becoming a world-class educational institution. A key focus is placed on research excellence, specifically generating high-impact knowledge and innovation through a robust research ecosystem to elevate WU’s status as a premier research university.
The President further noted that Walailak University is currently ranked 1201+ globally and 6th in Thailand. The university is committed to quality development across all dimensions to continuously climb the world rankings and gain national and international recognition. He emphasized that a prestigious university must be defined by the expertise of its faculty. Currently, 59% of WU’s 800+ academic staff hold academic titles (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor). The university has set a target to increase this figure to 70% by 2028-2029. Notably, WU now boasts 8 professors who have received royal endorsement, with another 8 awaiting the same honor.
In addition to academic and research goals, Walailak University is prioritizing leadership in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By integrating SDGs into teaching, research, and social services, the university aims to create sustainable impacts on local and global communities, in line with the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.
“Today, Walailak University has secured its place on the global stage, but I am confident we can go even further. We will continue to improve our world ranking in the future. I want to thank all executives for their contributions to our success today and wish for our university’s continued prosperity,” Professor Dr. Sombat concluded.
The ceremony was organized by the Human Resources and Organization Department in collaboration with internal units. The event concluded with the General Administration and Correspondence Affairs presenting the agreement documents to the 46 department heads, symbolizing the concrete implementation of policies for the university’s stable and progressive growth as a pillar of society
